Can't go wrong with Shelly Cashman's Books.
Very basic.
The only reason I have this textbook is for an intro computer class at my college that I was required to take. I have been building and repairing computers for 11 years, and this book is so horribly out of line with the reality of computers it is scary. Some of the terms and concepts that are used in this book are incredibly awful; if someone used half of these in the real computer world around technicians, you'd be looked at as crazy. The explanations for how parts work, and what the hardware is, is very misunderstood by the author. If you really want to know more about computers and how they REALLY work, I would recommend Upgrading and Repairing PCs by Scott Mueller.
